NAMM 2010
January 9, 2010
Hello, and happy 2010!
It's that time of year again... NAMM! The National Association of Music Merchants (actually, now it's called the International Music Products Association) convention is January 14-17 in Anaheim, CA and I'm playing four shows as part of the festivities!
First, my alt-country band The Flutterbies is playing NAMM's opening night show, Wednesday January 13 at 8:00 PM at the Hilton stage. We're honored and thrilled to be sponsored by James Trussart Custom Guitars, a boutique company that makes amazing instruments played by Keith Richards, Sheryl Crow, Paul Simon, and, now... me! Thursday, The Flutterbies' singer Maureen and I will also be playing a set at the James Trussart Guitars booth on the convention floor.
Thursday evening at 6:00 PM I'm back at the Hilton stage, playing guitar and singing with classic country chanteuse Lynda Kay. Lynda was half of the renowned rockabilly duo Lonesome Spurs, and her debut solo album Dream My Darling drops in March. Sunday, the last day of the convention, I'm playing with Lynda again at the Gretsch booth! She's proudly endorsed by Gretsch, and I'm delighted to be playing for one of my favorite guitar companies.
If you'd like to attend either Hilton stage show, they're both free and all-ages. The convention floor shows require a NAMM badge. Full information about addresses, badges, etc. is available online at the NAMM website.
Hope to see you there!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND "COME ALIVE"
December 15, 2009
Hello, and Happy Holidays!
As 2009 comes to an end, I'm feeling retrospective... It's been a diverse year for me, musically. I released a new single: Dream Out Loud / Always All About You. I celebrated the 10th anniversary of my debut album Blue Pop, reuniting The Adam Daniel Frequency for a reunion gig at David Bash's Internaional Pop Overthrow festival. I worked up a piano/vocal songbook of improbable covers, from Mraz to Muse. And to top it all off, I went country! Well, alt-country...
My side project The Flutterbies released our debut EP this year, to enthusiastic international reviews. Excited and grateful, we thought and thought... What can we give our new fans for the holidays? And then we had the perfect idea: free music! So from now until New Year’s Eve, you can download the first song ever written by The Flutterbies: "Come Alive". The tune is a sweet acoustic duet between me and our singer Maureen Davis, recorded live by Kiyoshi Graves and mixed by Tom Caffey (my Blue Pop co-producer).
Click the single art, below, to download the song (it's also posted for download at The Flutterbies' iLike page). Enjoy!
Thank you so much for your continued support this year... I truly have the greatest fans and friends. And once more, Happy Holidays!
NEW VIDEOS: "HALLELUJAH" AND "SHEVIRAH"
September 22, 2009
This past July I played a quiet showcase at a charming, quirky venue in North Hollywood, CA called Kulak's Woodshed. The gig was filmed, and the footage has been waiting for editing the weeks since. This morning I finally completed the task, and it's my great pleasure now to share a couple song clips with you: a piano/vocal cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and a previously unreleased ballad called "Shevirah".
"Hallalujah" is viewable at this website's video page. And both clips are posted at my YouTube channel.
James Hames, a journalist from the online newspaper My Daily Find, was in the audience at Kulak's Woodshed, and published this review:
Daniel’s set was a melange of sweet-voiced folk embellishing captivating melodies and tasty hooks, delightfully played on acoustic guitar and piano. His wry lyrics served as an able presage to his version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” — only slightly retouched; a brave choice for the comparisons it begs to Rufus Wainwright’s and Jeff Buckley’s famous covers. Daniel’s treatment stands well among them.
Thank you, James!
